The Chinese record the passage of time base on the lunar system and the solar system called the ‘Hsia calendar’ that is similar to the Gregorian calendar. However, it only differs from the Gregorian calendar in that it also carries information about the 5 elements. Each Hour, Day, Month and Year is represented by 2 elements, one representing the Heavenly Stem and the other the Earthly Branch. The element of the Earthly Branch will determine whether that particular day is an auspicious or a lacklustre one in relation to one’s personalized BaZi.
Knowing this in advance one can make a precise forecast by identifying that certain dates will enable one to enjoy better luck by diagnosing his personalized BaZi. With such useful knowledge one can time his luck and only place a certain bet or gamble at an appropriate date and time. One should always avoid putting unnecessary bets or gambles at the wrong time. Three golden rules must be adhered to in order for one to capitalize on the right timing when conducting his gambling or speculative activities.
